Biocatalytic hydrogenation: robust biotechnologies for sustainable chemical manufacturing

Sarah is Chief Scientific Officer and Co-founder of HydRegen Ltd, and has a passion for innovation and sustainability. She earned her PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Vermont (USA), focusing on synthetic methodologies in Prof. Matthias Brewer’s group. She then joined Prof. Kylie Vincent’s group at the University of Oxford as a postdoc, where she helped develop biocatalytic hydrogenation technologies, from innovation to de-risking for commercialisation. Sarah, alongside Dr Holly Reeve and Prof. Vincent, co-founded HydRegen which, at its core, is a process company that builds tools to make biocatalysis more straightforward to implement in chemistry settings. The HydRegen biotechnologies provide sustainable manufacturing solutions across the chemicals sector. Recent highlights include the validation of HydRegen’s core technology, H2BioCat, in typical batch and continuous flow hydrogenation infrastructure, demonstrating feasibility for process scale-up of speciality chemical manufacturing.
