Engineering Escherichia coli for large-scale industrial conditions: The route from scale-down via chassis engineering to production

Ralf Takors holds a diploma of process engineering (1993) and a Dr. degree in Bioprocess Engineering (1997). Between 1997 and 2004 he was heading the ‘fermentation’ group at Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH (Germany) and achieved the Habilitation degree for ‘Metabolic Engineering’ in 09/2004 at RWTH Aachen. From 10/2004 to 06/2009 Ralf joined Evonik Degussa GmbH and headed the department of bioprocess development. Since 07/2009 Ralf leads the Institute of Biochemical Engineering (IBVT) at the University of Stuttgart, Germany.

Ralf was appointed to acatech, the National Academy of Science and Engineering of Germany (2021), to the ‘council of bioeconomy’ of the state of Baden-Württemberg (2020), got member of the EFB division board 'Microbial Biotechnology' (2020), and is co-heading the German Biochemical Engineering Section at DECHEMA e.V. since 2014. He published >145 peer reviewed articles and received > 15 patents. Ralf lectures multiple courses in- and outside the University of Stuttgart.
