Microalgae-based resource recovery, recycling, and bioproducts; challenges and opportunities

Dr. Mehmood is Professor of Biotechnology at Government College University Faisalabad, Pakistan. He earned his PhD from Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, Pakistan. His research focuses on developing carbon-neutral processes for the sustainable utilization of bio-resources, resource recovery and recycling, and biotransformation of the biomass to bioproducts including biofertilizers, industrial enzymes, and biopolymers employing microalgae/cyanobacteria/fungi as microbial cell factories. He has completed several research projects in collaboration with national and international industry. He has published 103 articles, 15 book chapters, and has edited one book published Springer Nature. He has been honored with several awards including Research Productivity Awards by Pakistan Council for Science & Technology, Young Leaders Award by Positive Pakistan, four times Outstanding Research Award from Government College University Faisalabad, a Gold Medal in Biotechnology by the Applied Zoological Society of Pakistan and holds “The Distinguished Expert” title by Sichuan government, China. He is also co-founding executive board member and secretary-general of AFOB, Pakistan Chapter.
