Structural basis for directional chitin biosynthesis

Qing Yang earned her PhD in biochemical engineering from Dalian University of Technology in 2002. She was employed as associate professor in 2003 and subsequently as professor in 2006 at the same institution. She collaborated with Prof. Junying Yuan from Harvard Medical School and Prof. John E. Casida from University of California at Berkeley as postdoctoral researcher and Visiting Researcher during her stay in USA, respectively. Since 2019,Prof. Yang serves as a Principal Investigator and Doctoral Advisor at the Institute of Plant Protection and the Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Committed to the research of molecular targets of green pesticides, she employs structural biology and chemical biology to study crucial enzymes associated with the synthesis, degradation, and modification of chitin in pathogenic bacteria and destructive insects, spearheading the exploration of novel human/animal-safe pesticide molecular targets and agrochemical product development. With years’ efforts, Prof. Yang has elaborated the structure and function of several chitinolytic enzymes and developed highly active inhibitors as future insecticide.
